April is Autism Awareness Month

Photobucket

I just wanted everyone to know that April is Autism Awareness month. My goal this month is to educate every person who will listen about some facts about autism. The biggest problem I think we have faced so far is that no one knows anything about autism. Some think that they do, however they do not. With that said here are some of the most common facts about autism. Spread the word!!

10 things you might not know about autism.

* 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism
* 1 in 94 boys are on the autism spectrum
* 67 children are diagnosed per day
* A new case is diagnosed almost every 20 minutes
* More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined
* Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.

* Autism costs the nation over $35 billion per year, a figure expected to significantly increase in the next decade
* Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases
* Boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism
* There is no medical detection or cure for autism

**Also if you would like to learn more about autism I highly recommend these books! Happy reading!

Play date with Daisy and Bella

We had at least one pretty day this weekend. We tried to make the best of it. We took Ethan over to see Daisy and Bella. I thought he might enjoy seeing them but I had no idea how much. He loved those dogs. We started outside their fence so he could feel them out. We knew he was enjoying himself when he had his hand on the fence and Daisy came by and stuck all of his fingers in her mouth! He didn't know what to think at first, then he put them back up there for her to come back. Some of you may be thinking, " So what he likes dogs" This is a really big deal for Ethan. Not many things get his attention and keep it. He had a smile on his face the entire time. This is also a big deal, and that made mommy and daddy very happy to see their baby boy so happy.

Mommies should not cut hair!

We took Ethan to get his hair cut yesterday. It didn't happen. We left w/half a haircut. So me being the super mom that I think I am, I thought I would just trim it up in the front. Bad idea. I started combing his hair, he was fine w/that, I got some of his hair in my fingers and I thought ok he is gonna let me do this. Just as I started to snip he moved! I cut a big chunk right out of the front of his hair. I thought ok, I can even it out, so I followed the cut I had made all the way across. That is when I took this picture.

Bowl cut anyone? I was so mad at myself. I cried my eyeballs out. I had ruined my baby's beautiful hair. I had to tell Kevin what I had done. I thought he was gonna kill me. So, we decided that we would have to buzz his hair off w/clippers. So that is what I did.

It took forever for me to get all that hair cut off. Thank God for dvd players.
The reason why I was so determined to get his hair cut is because tomorrow is baby dedication at church. So, Ethan will get to show his new hair cut to everyone.

I don't think he was very happy when it was all over.

Crazy things are happening....

The Bowmans just got over the flu. We have all been sick for 3 wks. Having the flu stinks, but when your entire family has it, no one is happy. Ethan had to visit the doctor twice, and lets just say that both times were very traumatizing for Ethan and mommy and daddy. He developed the croop on top of the flu. This was probably the sickest he has been his entire life. My mom had to keep Ethan this weekend, Kevin and I were just so sick and he actually appeared to be getting better. However that was not the case.

We are on the mend now and hopefully things are on the up swing. Right now it is snowing and this snow just came from outta no where. We probably have 3 or 4 inches. Isn't this March or am I still disoriented from all the sickness.... Earlier this week, when we were sick and couldn't go outside of course, it was in the 70s. I am so ready for spring. Its so much easier to care for a child when the weather is warm. There is no bundling up before you go out, there is not as much sickness, you can actually go outside and do things instead of sitting in the house all the time. We also have lots to do when it gets warm. We gotta get the house ready to move in, and get ours ready to be sold. Lots of changes ahead for the Bowmans.
